Gordon K. “Yogi” Collins apprenticed in T.L. Collins Paint and Paper Hanging business in Athens, Georgia, from 1969-1983. He was a second generation paint and paper hanger, who specialized in residential interior work and started Trojan Paint and Paper Hanging in 1984.
Yogi Collins had years of experience with interior painting, plaster and sheetrock repairs, textured finishes and hanging wallpaper: including all types of wallpaper prep, removals and damaged wall and ceiling repairs. He took the utmost pride in his work and left all job sites thoroughly cleaned. Yogi was a master craftsman who not only made lasting impacts and friendships wherever he went but also autographed each customer’s wall with his hand print, signature and a plan of salvation. My father had a good name and ensured that every job was done right. He looked after people, loved the Lord and his family, and was blessed with continuous work by word of mouth. Should you find his message on one of your walls, the number beside his name represented the job count, which was based on the number of different patterns he hung over the years.
Trojan Paint and Paper Hanging is no longer in business; Gordon K. “Yogi” Collins was forced to medically retire in January. He battled cancer in 2023 and died at 9:45pm on Wednesday November 15, 2023.
Dad’s funeral is today at Lord and Stephens East at 2:30pm off Lexington Road in Athens, GA. We will have visitation from 1:30pm to 2:30pm with graveside services at Tuckston United Methodist Church.
